In honor of Turkish Coffee Lady’s 5th Anniversary Celebration, İstanbul’s Microangelo Will Showcase His World-renowned Miniature Art

The first Turkish coffee shop in the U.S., Turkish Coffee Lady, is proud to celebrate its fifth anniversary in business with a month full of activities for all members of the family. Aligned with its mission to promote a 500-year old cultural heritage, Turkish Coffee Lady is committed to bridging cultures through coffee, cuisine and arts since 2009.

A Virginia born woman-owned small business, Turkish Coffee Lady will celebrate its anniversary in the DMV area with a breathtaking miniature art exhibition by artist Hasan Kale known as Microangelo. Kale; a world-renowned micro art master who can turn tiny objects into miniscule paintings, will exhibit his master pieces in the heart of Old Town Alexandria. Kale’s unique show, will feature major U.S. cities through miniature food art such as coffee bean, popcorn, sesame, rice grain, onionskin, pumpkin seed and spaghetti. These one of a kind art pieces will be on display August 1st-September 1st (extended date). A portion of the art exhibit sales will be donated to Children's Emergency Fund to provide immediate aid to children and families at risk in Ukraine.

The founder of Turkish Coffee Lady, Gizem Salcigil White said: “I am incredibly grateful for having the chance to celebrate this important milestone with our community members. After traveling the world with a non-profit award-winning Turkish Coffee Truck for eight years, we introduced our unique coffee and culture house to DMV’s culture adventurers to five years ago through our first brick mortar store. After two years into the pandemic, we survived the storm as a woman-owned business and opened our flagship store in Old Town, Alexandria. To express our gratitude and appreciation to all of our supporters over the past five years, we will proudly mark our anniversary with our new arts director Mr. Kale’s special art exhibition and continue our mission of building friendships one cup at a time”.

The Washington DC based Turkish Coffee Lady Foundation is also dedicated to building cross-cultural communication through gastro diplomacy. “There is a famous Turkish saying that goes “A cup of Turkish coffee is remembered with appreciation for 40 years” which means offering a cup of coffee binds a friendship” said White. “Coffee and coffee house culture spread from Istanbul in the 17th century to Europe and then to the Americas. That culture has helped define our identities for centuries, and our women-led team is eager to continue that tradition.”

In addition to the special art exhibition, the participants will have a chance to observe traditional handcrafts such as ceramic tile painting and Turkish coffee brewing on the sand throughout in August. Turkish coffee cup reading workshops will be offered for free to give a full-experience of world-famous Turkish hospitality and coffee conversations to many coffee lovers. Additionally, an event series called “Entrepreneurial Ladies Club” will also kick off in August at the culture house in order to empower women entrepreneurs.
