Art of Ebru: Turkish Marbled Paper Making Workshop

Looking for a fun family activity during Ramadan? Come join us at this special workshop and learn about paper marbling from a very talented ebru artist, Ms. Sabiha Ozgur.

Paper marbling is a method of aqueous surface design which can produce patterns similar to marble or other stone. The patterns are the result of color floated on either plain water or a viscous and then carefully transferred to a sheet of paper. The word marbling in Turkish is ebru which means cloudy.

About the Artist:
Sabiha Ozgur is master of Ebru art which is known as Turkish marbled paper in Europe and marbled paper in all over the world.

She has been practicing this art since 2004 and trained in Istanbul Turkey by great Ebru masters like Hikmet Barutcugil and Ayla Makas. She worked with her master Hikmet Barutcugil’s studio for 6 years before establishing her own studio in Istanbul, Turkey. She has moved to United States five years ago, and practicing this art in USA since than at different festivals, schools and teaching at KAGEM DCA. She also carries out several Ebru workshops around Washington DC Area.

She studied psychology as her undergrad major and has master of arts in social psychology from Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey. She strongly believes in the healing power of art and studies art therapy as well.
