*** OPENING NOVEMBER ***
“Sip. Savor. Share.”
October 30, 2017 (Washington D.C.) – Turkish Coffee Lady is delighted to announce the opening of its first gourmet coffee shop in Tysons Corner Center in November 2017. The gourmet café is founded by a Turkish American entrepreneur and mother who traveled the world with a coffee truck and is now launching her first-brick-and-mortar venture in the heart of northern Virginia. Creating an authentic gathering space for coffee lovers, Turkish Coffee Lady Café provides unique tastes, cultural delights, and vintage goods from Istanbul, Turkey where coffee house culture has flourished since 1554. The café will also offer complimentary online fortune telling sessions, a tradition of Turkish coffee drinking, for its customers.
“Turkish coffee is the world’s first coffee brewing method invented by Turks in the 16th century, and it is the original gourmet coffee. Our café is a new take on the gourmet coffee experience combined with a timeless journey to Istanbul where East meets West” said Gizem Salcigil White, aka the Turkish Coffee Lady. A Virginia resident since 2008, she started the award-winning Turkish Coffee Truck project in 2012 to share her passion for her heritage and build friendships between societies. Through her cultural diplomacy initiative, White and a group of dedicated volunteers traveled across America, Turkey, Netherlands, Belgium, France, and Canada over the past five years. Her work has been featured on The Washington Post and honored by the U.S. Congress.
“Turkish coffee culture is recognized by UNESCO’s World Heritage list as a cultural inheritance that should be protected. That’s why I am so excited to share this five-centuries old ritual and gourmet delight with my adopted country. I am thrilled to share Turkey’s culinary traditions and authentic coffee provided by Turkey’s oldest coffee ground seller Kurukahveci Mehmet Efendi with our customers,” said White.
The café menu is not limited to Turkish coffee products. Guests can enjoy Columbian filtered coffee, traditional Turkish tea, herbal teas, traditional Turkish delights, gourmet baklava, mouth-watering salty and sweet treats, chocolate assortments, and Mediterranean ice-cream products by Lezzetli. The world’s first automatic Turkish coffee maker, Arzum Okka, will also be available for purchase in addition to coffee and tea sets by premium brands from Istanbul.
As part of the entertainment, Turkish Coffee Lady Café is partnering with Faladdin, an online fortune telling application where visitors can learn what future holds for them after enjoying a cup of coffee. . Fortune telling is an ancient tradition and Turkish coffee is the only coffee kind where fortunetellers can predict one’s future by reading the grounds in the bottom of the cup. The service is complimentary for customers ordering the combo called “Cup of Delight” featuring Turkish coffee coupled with Turkish delights or chocolate truffles.
Turkish Coffee Lady is a women-owned business and is committed to inspiring women entrepreneurs to pursue their dreams. White is honored to receive consultation from the Women's Business Center of Northern Virginia at Community Business Partnership to help make her vision for Turkish Coffee Lady a reality.
